Article Regarding Documentary Stamps Published

Previously we wrote two articles regarding the issue regarding the calculation of documentary stamp taxes on short sale real estate transactions. The first article entitled "The Document Stamp Dilemma On Short Sales" posted on August 20, 2008 introduced the issue of whether document stamp taxes imposed by the State of Florida should be based on the contract price of a short sale or based on the outstanding loan balance on the property including any loan amount that is being discharged. The second article entitled "The Document Stamp Dilemma On Short Sales Clarified" posted on December 30, 2008 clarified the State's position regarding this issue as indicated by the Florida Department of Revenue.

Earlier this year we were asked by the Greater Tampa Association of Realtors to publish an article regarding this issue in the Greater Tampa Realtor News which is the official publication of the Greater Tampa Association of Realtors. The article was published in the February 2009 issue. To read the article click here.
